Wrapping up the Light of Day

I’ve had a delay with the story, since I want to wrap up some details for the last book. Here’s a sneak peak at some of the pages.

There is an excellent series on making manga and what not here. The series of articles explains why I’ll be stepping back from making comics. At this time there really isn’t a market for my books, and right now I’m unable to build a brand. So I’m going to focus on the areas I’ve had success in.

It kinda looks like a lip balm tube, but I would advise against using it that way. I got the black and white set. Putting it down on paper it initially reminded me of oil pastels. Using water it’s great for doing gray scale work, it’s got a broad range. The only drawback I found is it diluted a bit too much with water. It also dries very quickly so I no wet in wet techniques. Once this is dry it’s permanent, so it would be good for under paintings. It’s transparent (which I like) so I definitely would like to try out the color versions and gel mediums. The price is reasonable (especially if your craft store does coupons) and it’s portable. So I really like it

Light of Day 3

Gonna disappear for a while to draw the final issue. 56 pages doesn’t seem like a lot, but I want it done before summer.(and it takes a while for me to create pages) I have tried shorter processes for making comics, and was unhappy with the results. So I’ll spend the next couple of months taking these scribbled out ideas and creating a final product.

I will do a few print copies, but this is basically the last print book I’ll be doing along with the last issue of Broken Wings, since all my sales (the little I have) are from e books now. I love print books but I guess it’s just a sign of the times.

One Moment and National Poetry Month

It’s national poetry month, so I’m gonna use this as a chance to to study poetry more. I write poems but I don’t know a lot about the art form, since I spent the last decade learning to draw.

This one has always sold at conventions, not sure why, it’s another image song from Legacy of Light. Most of my poems are about my characters, my real life isn’t that dramatic, lol.

Latest work in the bjd series
Like a bird who must break it’s shell to be born, you too must break through the barriers that confine you. Influences that went into this one in no particular order: Spring, Utena, Life, Death, Rebirth, The World, Bunnies… Though when I’m actually working, it all goes by in blur. This is was done with soft pastels on paper.

Createspace review

I ordered broken wings through CS using the cream paper. For my style of art (lots of grey shades) the cream paper looks so much better, than the white paper. The binding doesn’t look like it’s going to hold up though :/ Maybe I’m just rough with my books. I still think Ka-blam and RAdirect are far superior printers. The upside to createspace is they are from amazon, so the books are suppose to autolink to the corresponding kindle books. So I’d give them a C+, the price is cheap, the quality is ok, there are the perks of the Amazon platform, and the turn around time is about a week. I’d give a higher grade, but there is always the threat of amazon dropping the ban hammer on Songbirds, just cuz they feel like it.

the paper is definitely a warm cream/beige color, my camera couldn’t capture it though.

Nandi Butterfly Art

Another Nandi ( mnandi means sweet) image. These are images of dolls, and one of the reasons they don’t have mouths is because “children should be seen and not heard.” Needless to say I was a quiet child. I may make that the title of the art book once I have enough done.

This is done in mostly iridescent watercolors (which do not scan well) on watercolor board.

This is the opening song for Legacy of Light, I still plan to work on this story even though it’s not near as popular as Songbirds.

I think part of the problem is I’ve always thought of Legacy as an anime (and in full color), so I may change some things for the next book.
